ENAMEL MICROABRASION
MICROABRASION CAN TREAT TEETH DISCOLOURATION SPOTS
Enamel microabrasion in dentistry is a minimally invasive cosmetic dental treatment that involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the teeth using an acidic abrasive material. The procedure is used to remove superficial stains and discolourations from the teeth that are resistant to traditional whitening treatments, and to improve the appearance of teeth with superficial enamel irregularities and discolouration defects. Microabrasion may be helpful for brown, yellow or white stains or spots associated with conditions such as enamel fluorosis, hypomineralisation, decalcified areas around orthodontic brackets and other marks that do not respond to bleaching alone. Microabrasion may be used before and/or after dental bleaching to achieve uniform tooth colour for these types of difficult to treat teeth.
MICROABRASION PROCESS
During the procedure, a mild acid gel is applied to the surface of the teeth for a short period of time, which helps to remove the discolored enamel. A polishing agent is then used to buff and smooth the treated area, resulting in a brighter and more uniform appearance of the teeth, and Tooth Mousse Plus is applied to the prepared surface for a period of time to harden the surface. The process is then repeated to remove stains that are up 0.2 mm deep.
Microabrasion is a relatively quick and painless procedure that can be performed in a single visit to the dentist's office. It is generally considered safe and effective for treating mild to moderate stains and discolorations, although it may not be suitable for more severe cases. Your dentist can help determine if microabrasion is the right treatment option for your particular situation.
Following microabrasion and/or teeth bleaching, home application of a remineralising cream, Tooth Mousse Plus, is recommended for a period of time to enrich treated tooth enamel with calcium and phosphate minerals, for a beautiful post treatment protection and maintenance. Blotchy permanent front teeth in young children can be treated quite safely with this technique.
WHAT IS TOOTH MOUSSE PLUS?
Tooth Mousse Plus is a dental product used to help prevent and treat tooth decay, erosion, and sensitivity. It is a topical cream that is applied to the teeth and contains a combination of calcium, phosphate, and fluoride.
The calcium and phosphate in Tooth Mousse Plus help to remineralize and strengthen the enamel, which is the protective outer layer of the tooth. This can help to reverse early stages of tooth decay and erosion and prevent further damage to the teeth.
The addition of fluoride in Tooth Mousse Plus can help to strengthen the teeth even further and prevent the formation of new cavities. Fluoride helps to remineralize the teeth and make them more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria in the mouth.
Tooth Mousse Plus is typically recommended for people who are at a high risk of developing tooth decay or erosion, such as those with dry mouth, orthodontic appliances, or a diet high in acidic foods and drinks. It can also be used as a treatment for early stages of tooth decay and erosion or as a preventive measure to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Your dentist can recommend the best way to incorporate Tooth Mousse Plus into your oral care routine.
