GUM LIFT AT BRISBANE SMILE BOUTIQUE
Gum Contouring at Brisbane Smile Boutique is an elective cosmetic dental procedure which reshapes your gum line to enhance the look of your smile, by making your smile appear more broad, balanced and symmetrical. A gum lift may be discussed for a smile that shows a lot of gum, or where the gum heights are uneven, and involves lifting the height of the gums. Gummy smiles are characterised by short, square teeth with excessive upper gums displayed when smiling, and a gum lift can minimise the gum exposure, and show more of the part of the tooth that is hiding under the gum line to improve the appearance of the smile. This results in less of the gum line being shown in the smile, with the gum line appearing scalloped, and with the length of the tooth being more in proportion, showing more fullness in the smile.
Gum lifts are used to create aesthetic harmony in a smile, so that the final result of smile design showcases a more perfect outcome.
Gum lifts are used to:
Remove excess growth of the gum
Making a square tooth look more rectangular and elongated
Gummy smile reduction
Exposing hidden and healthy tooth structure to assist in rebuilding the tooth
Creating symmetry at the gum line to balance the look of a smile
Eliminating an uneven gum line
Creating a more scalloped appearance of the gum, so the tooth shows the correct proportions
To neaten the gum line so that smile design appears aesthetically harmonious
Making a short tooth appear more blanaced and less square
gum lift Procedure
There are two ways that dentists adjust the height of the gum, with the procedure requiring a measure of the gum to bone ratio (called the biological width). After local anaesthetic, there will be some initial gum bleeding, which will quickly settle and heal over a period of a few days. Stability occurs over a few weeks, with a fast, predictable recovery.
Gingivectomy
In some cases the gum can be contoured to increased the tooth length and balance the smile, using a micro surgical technique, without any stitches. This is called a gingivectomy.
Crown Lengthening
If the gum to bone ratio is determined to be not ideal, a tiny amount of bone under the gum is adjusted and contoured to improve the gum shape, which will eliminate future inflammation of the gum, and allow the correct proportions of the tooth to be exposed. Micro sutures which are hidden, may be placed and care is taken over the duration of healing. This procedure is called crown lengthening.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek an opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
